Is it possible to install tile flooring in an old house with cement flooring that's uneven?

I bought an old place that started off as a small cabin in the desert and the previous owners added on a couple of times until the house had a large living area and one large bedroom. It has old vinyl (?) tile that needs to be replaced. I would really like to replace it with real tile but I need to know if it's even possible because the floor itself is very uneven. Or will I have to settle for vinyl? Any advice appriciated! Thanks.

WOW looks like you have a HUGE project… you are gonna want to level it out!! Don't go to HOME DEPOT for things, my parents did and they got screwed.. ask around for the best , good luck to you… you don't want to end up with cracks and problems later on if you don't do it right.. good luck

You'd have to lay down a subfloor. Recommended to increase the life of the tile too.

You'd need to do something to level the floor before putting tile over it…research your options.

You can put down some leveler first then install real tiles..

You'd probably have to even out the floor first. Otherwise, your tiles will crack.

Vinyl tiles will not last on an uneven floor. There is a product that you pour onto an uneven floor and it finds the correct level. Your local hardware store or builders supply outlet will have the very answers you are looking for. I have used this product successfully, so you will be able to as well. Your new ceramic tiles will look fabulous and last a long time. Good luck!

If it were me I'd get a contractor out to have a look. Even if you don't have him do the job you'll know what needs to be done!
