hi, i currently … hi, i currently have 12 X 12 ceramic tile floor in my living room. this was place over a concrete. some of the titles are now popping up. the 4 bedrooms currently with pergo that i put in 5 yrs ago. i placed plastic sheet. i’m wondering if i’m going to have problems since there was problems with the title floor. the titles were put in 9 years ago.
should i really take out all the titles and let it sit over 48 hours before placing my pergo?
I have four dogs … I have four dogs that run all over it, and let me not one mark. As far as warping and bowing, that would be mainly related to perhaps they didn’t use a vapor barrier or not the right one on a concrete floor. Or they just mop the heck out of it. They are great choice of a floor to use. I just love them..
How much care needs … How much care needs to be taken with laminate floors? I hear many horror stories that they warp or bow easily. Also, if you have pets – are laminate floors prone to scratches?
Thanks. I managed … Thanks. I managed to get away with 1/2 inch quarter round – in some cases by the skin of my teeth. Fortuneately, my gaps were slightly less that 1/2 inch and I tested a piece of quarter round at each end piece to ensure coverage. But it was no thanks to Lowes! I think 3/4 round would be clumsy looking. I won’t make that mistake again.
Hi, yes laminate … Hi, yes laminate floor can and will shrink and expand to some degree. However I do understand what your saying, I like to leave a 1/4 inch cap on each end installed a 1/2 quarter round or 5/8 base trim will cover up nicely. In your case where the floor has been installed already just use 3/4 quarter round. That should do the trick..
Lowes told me to … Lowes told me to leave a 0.5 inch gap round the edges. I did that. But that’s too much. Bad advice. The 0.5 inch quarter round barely covers the edge – of course. Do they really imagine that the laminate will increase in dimensions by 1 inch due to temperature/humidity?
First off it’s … First off it’s really to cool to help your dad out. And thank you very much. You can even find more information on my site.. Thanks again…
Hi I did reply to … Hi I did reply to you a few days ago. I don’t know why it never posted. Anyway, You can remove the base trim and then reinstall or much better would be to leave the old trim in place and 3/4 – 1/4 round to cover up your floor edges. Tip- paint or stain before installing.

In any case you … In any case you need floor preparation in order to get maximum benefit from any kind of flooring. It comes down to how happy will you be with carpet with bumps and dips on your floor. Get few quotes and make sure your floor is even throughout
We just bought … We just bought $2300 in laminate flooring at HomeDepot for use in our basement. Our contractor is concerned because the basement floor isn’t level. In some areas it’s just over an inch downgrade. You can’t notice with the naked eye, but laying a straight 2×4 on it, you can see it. Is this going to be a big problem? Should we go with carpet or vinyl flooring instead?
I would use a jig … I would use a jig saw. Unless your looking for a very round clean cut, then you can use a hole saw,(round) but will involve some heavy duty measuring to use a hole saw. Feel free to visit my site to where I can go more into detail. … Dom
question: I’m … question: I’m installing a floating floor in my basement. It’s tongue in groove also and made of PVC. Anyway, same concept but I have to cut circles out for a support pole and a few round drain tile covers. Best tool for doing that?
You said it, simple … You said it, simple is as simple is. The main reason why people fail is because they try to hard. Thank you very much for this very nice comment.
EXCELLENT!!!!!!!!!! … EXCELLENT!!!!!!!!!!!! Keep it simple always works better than rocket science. I have done many floors and if you want a good learning video this is it. Great job Dominick!

I thought laminate countertops makes the kitchen or bath outdated. Better stick with granite instead.
